Polysomnography (Overnight Sleep Study)
Polysomnography is used to diagnose or rule out many types of sleep disorders, including narcolepsy, periodic limb movement disorder (PLMD), REM behavior disorder, parasomnias and most commonly, sleep apnea. It is often ordered for patients with complaints of daytime fatigue or sleepiness that may be caused by interrupted sleep.
Titrations (CPAP)
This is an extensively used, successful treatment for obstructive sleep apnea. It consists of a machine connected to the patient via a hose and mask. The technologists will be adjusting air pressure levels throughout the night to eliminate snoring and apneic events, maintaining healthy oxygen levels.
Ambulatory Sleep Study And Screening
This is a take-home sleep study where the patient is given a device to take home and use that records many of the same vitals we monitor during an in-lab study. This gives the provider a good study baseline of any sleep disorders that may be present.
Mean Sleep Latency Test (MSLT)
The MSLT is the primary test for the diagnosis of narcolepsy. This test assesses two major components of narcolepsy: hypersomnolence and SOREMPs (Sleep Onset Rapid Eye Movement Periods), which occur in narcolepsy but are otherwise uncommon.
Maintenance Of Wakefulness Test
The Maintenance of Wakefulness Test (MWT) is used to measure how alert you are during the day. It shows whether or not you are able to stay awake for a defined period of time. This is an indicator of how well you are able to function and remain alert in quiet times of inactivity.
